John Mulaney Brings Dry Laughs To Napa Vineyards
A comedy star with a history of turning personal chaos into punchlines heads to Napa this October.
NAPA VALLEY, CA — John Mulaney has made a career mining discomfort for laughs, and on Oct. 17, he brings that act to Napa in what promises to be one of Wine Country’s most high-profile comedy nights of the year.
The Emmy Award-winning stand-up comedian will perform at the Blue Note Summer Sessions outdoor venue at The Meritage Resort.
Mulaney, known for turning confession into comedy, has lately drawn material from sobriety, fatherhood and the turbulence surrounding his 2020 intervention and recovery — themes that fueled his raw recent specials and reshaped his stage persona. With Napa’s wine-soaked backdrop as a setting, the performance could offer fertile ground for new riffs.

Long before he became a stand-up headliner, Mulaney nearly had a radically different career path. As a child, he was offered an audition for Kevin McCallister in Home Alone, but his parents turned it down. He later became a defining writer at Saturday Night Live, where he co-created the cult-favorite character Stefon with Bill Hader and helped shape some of the show’s sharpest satire.
His reach extends well beyond stand-up. He co-produced Netflix’s animated hit Big Mouth, voiced Spider-Ham in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and even drew Secret Service scrutiny after a joke during his 2020 SNL hosting stint sparked brief controversy.
