Man Dies After Jumping Into Napa River

A witness said the man previously was in his underwear and running erratically along the riverbank, police said.

NAPA, CA – A man died after he jumped into the Napa River in the Oxbow Preserve open space area in Napa on Saturday, police said.

A witness saw a man in his underwear running erratically along the riverbank in the preserve on McKenzie Drive around 8:50 p.m., Napa police Sgt. Todd Shulman said.

The witness said the man jumped in the water and yelled for help a short time later. Police officers arrived and threw a rope where they believed the man was, but he couldn't reach it because of vegetation along
the riverbank, Shulman said.
