Napa Appoints New Assistant City Manager
The city announced the selection of an assistant city manager of Development Services — a newly created position.

NAPA, CA — The city of Napa announced that in response to an "unprecedented level of development activity in Napa and corresponding increased demand on the Community Development and Public Works departments," it has created the assistant city manager position and has appointed someone to the role.
Peter Pirnejad has been selected as the new assistant city manager of Development Services, city officials said Friday in a news release.
"Reporting to the city manager, Dr. Pirnejad will serve as a critical link between both departments, the city manager’s office and external stakeholders," said Jaina French of the city manager's office.

Pirnejad will also be responsible for overseeing the city’s economic development activities.
"Assisting the city manager with department oversight, he exercises considerable independent judgment related to the planning and implementation of major city projects, such as the citywide parking program, the Civic Center project, and Napa Pipe," French said.

Napa City Manager Mike Parness further explained that Pirnejad "will serve at an executive level to ensure that processes and systems support the seamless completion of priority initiatives that are important to community vitality and advancement of City Council goals."
City officials described Pirnejad as a "committed and collaborative public administrator" who brings 20 years of experience in land use.
According to the city news release: "Pirnejad specializes in improving operations by focusing on collaboration, streamlining systems and leveraging innovative technologies. He is also skilled at the art of civic engagement and community building. His award-winning work includes introducing innovative new technologies, building high performing teams, streamlining systems and creating leading edge sustainability programs."
Pirnejad attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He went on to attend University of Southern California, where he earned his master's degree and doctorate.
"I am thrilled at the opportunity to join the Napa family and help the City Council and community reach their collective goals," said Pirnejad, who is married with three children. "Napa has all the complexity of a well-governed city without compromising the charm of a small town."
