Napa Barricade Standoff: Gun Threat Escalates Arrest Into Barricade

NAPA VALLEY, CA — Napa police officers entered a Silverado Trail residence and helped a restrained victim outside Sunday after a man barricaded the door, threatened that he had a firearm, and refused to let the woman leave freely, police said.

Patrol officers went to the 100 block of Silverado Trail on Aug. 23 to contact Erik Schoch, 37, of Napa, who police said had an active arrest warrant.

A court order restrained Schoch from being at the residence.

When officers knocked on the door, Schoch tried to keep them from entering, refused commands to come outside, and told police he had a firearm, according to the Napa Police Department.

Officers then learned that the person named in the restraining order was inside the residence. Police believed Schoch was preventing her from leaving.

Officers eventually entered the residence and helped the woman outside.

While officers remained inside, Schoch left a room and confronted them in a hallway, police said. He ignored officers' commands and told them to shoot him.

Officers deployed a police K9 to help make the arrest. Schoch continued to violently resist after the K9 was deployed, but officers took him into custody safely, police said.

After the arrest, officers found a replica firearm and suspected drug paraphernalia in the area where Schoch had barricaded himself, according to police.

Police arrested Schoch on multiple charges.
