Napa County Appoints Dr. Christine Wu As Public Health Officer

Wu is replacing Dr. Karen Relucio who is retiring Dec. 30.

NAPA, CA — Dr. Christine Wu has been named deputy director of HHSA-Public Health/public health officer announced Jennifer Yasumoto, agency director, Health and Human Services. Dr. Wu was formally appointed to the position today by the Napa County Board of Supervisors and will start her new post effective December 31, 2022, replacing Dr. Karen Relucio who is retiring on December 30.

“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Wu, who has been at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic response in our neighboring Solano County, join our Agency,” said Yasumoto. “She is bright and well-respected and will play a key role in furthering our Agency’s mission to serve our community and support its health and well-being.”

Dr. Wu has served as the deputy health officer, clinic physician for Solano County Public Health since January 2019, overseeing communicable disease control as the bureau chief, as well as emergency medical services, preparedness and immunization programs.

Prior to that, Dr. Wu was a preventive medicine resident, principal investigator/program manager for Solano County Public Health, working in the areas of quality improvement, Diabetes prevention and Naloxone distribution. She helped establish Solano County’s Opioid Safety Coalition and Buprenorphine Medication Assisted Treatment program.

Dr. Wu currently serves as the co-chair of the health equity committee, California Conference of Local Health Officers (CCLHO), California Department of Public Health (CDPH); and she is on the advisory committee, CDPH Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant.

Dr. Wu is a peer reviewer for the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association and an adjunct instructor at Touro University School of Medicine. She has won numerous awards including one for Solano County’s Integrated Long-Term Care Facilities COVID Outbreak Response and Infection Prevention Education Program from the National Association of Counties, and she and her team were recognized nationally as a 2022 U.S. Tuberculosis Elimination Champion from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.

Dr. Wu is Board Certified in Preventive Medicine and General Public Health and is a graduate of the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the UC Berkeley School of Public Health.
