Napa County Canyon Fire Nearly Contained

BREAKING: Fifty-five fire personnel remained assigned to the fire Monday morning.

NAPA COUNTY, CA -- After a weekend of firefighting, Cal Fire officials said Monday morning the Canyon Fire in northern Napa County near Lake Berryessa was nearly contained. The wildfire, which broke out Friday afternoon at Highway 128 and Sage Canyon Road and quickly spread, at one point forcing mandatory evacuations, was 95-percent contained at 114 acres as of 9:10 a.m. Monday, Cal Fire reported.

After working through the night to strengthen the control lines and work the hot spots within the fire perimeter, 55 fire personnel remained assigned to the Canyon Fire Monday morning, officials said.

No structures were destroyed in the blaze; however, one firefighter suffered a minor injury but was expected to recover.

Road closures that had been in effect for the Capell Valley area were lifted Saturday around noon, the Napa County Sheriff's Office reported.

Throughout the weekend, firefighters did fire suppression repair.

Firefighters repair damage to the land or any property, such as cut fences or gates, that occurred during the fire, Cal Fire spokeswoman Suzie Blankenship said.
