Napa County Housing Names $200K Grant Recipients

Napa County to award grants to local agencies to further affordable housing goals.

News from the County of Napa:

Napa County Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs will be awarding this week $200,000 to local nonprofits and agencies that support affordable housing in the community.

The funds will be provided in the form of grants from recaptured Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000 and must be spent within a 12-month period of time.

Funding must be used to further affordable housing within the county and its incorporated cities and town by assisting those whose income is 80 percent less of the County Median Income.

The local nonprofits and agencies receiving funds are:

· Calistoga Affordable Housing applied for three different projects:

o $20,000 for Lakewood Apartments driveway repair;

o $10,000 for Rebuilding Calistoga, which provides repairs for seniors to make their homes safe; and

o $20,000 for Turley Flats, a new eight-unit affordable housing project in St. Helena.

· Community Action Napa Valley (CANV) requested $20,000 to help low income families and individuals who are either homeless or will soon be homeless.

· Napa Emergency Women’s Services (NEWS) requested $20,000 to assist two families transitioning from homelessness at the NEWS Shelter into subsidized apartments for 12 months.

· Napa Valley Community Housing (NVCH) requested $20,000 for energy saving upgrades at Whistle Stop Townhomes.

· Habitat for Humanity asked for $20,000 to rehab a house on Pine Street.

· Buckelew Programs requested $20,000 to provide permanent housing for 12 adults with serious mental illness and to provide services to help them live independently.

· Our Town St. Helena requested $7,270 to complete the funding for a low income couple to help them age in place.

“The reuse of these federal funds will allow us to preserve affordable housing, which as we all know, is a critical need for Napa,” said Larry Florin, Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs director.
