NAPA, CA — The Metropolitan Transportation Commission — a public, governmental agency responsible for planning, financing and coordinating transportation for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area — voted unanimously at its February meeting to elect Napa County Supervisor Alfredo Pedroza as vice chair for a two-year term.

Twenty-one commissioners representing Bay Area counties and cities govern MTC. The commission meets monthly and acts as the Bay Area Toll Authority and the Service Authority for Freeways and Expressways.

The federal government, state Legislature and Bay Area voters have assigned MTC a wide-ranging portfolio to deliver a smooth-functioning, well-maintained transportation system. One of MTC’s core roles is to adopt a long-range plan to guide transportation and housing in the Bay Area. MTC also works to secure funds to make this regional vision a reality.

"Napa County and the Bay Area continues to face major transportation and housing challenges that require us to think and plan regionally," Pedroza said in a news release. "I am excited to continue to work for Napa County and on behalf of the Bay Area in this new capacity to ensure that we continue to invest in our transportation infrastructure and network."

Pedroza represents Napa County District 4, which encompasses portions of the city of Napa (downtown to North Napa), along with Silverado Country Club, Monticello Park, Circle Oaks, Lake Berryessa, Soda Canyon and Gordon Valley.
