Napa County Under Heat Advisory This Weekend: National Weather Service

North Bay residents are advised to not only take health precautions for themselves, but also for their pets and livestock.

NORTH SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA -- High temperatures are expected to be at or above the 100-degree mark for the next several days in the North Bay, with a National Weather Service heat advisory forecast to remain in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday through 11 p.m. Monday.

This weekend's advisory area stretches across the interior valleys and mountains of the North Bay --including the greater communities of Santa Rosa, South Santa Rosa, Napa, Petaluma and Rohnert Park in Sonoma and Napa counties.

Temperatures were already starting to climb Friday, as evidenced by this shot taken by Patch photographer Al Francis of cattle cooling off in a rural area east of Petaluma, near Highway 116 and Adobe Road.

Residents -- particularly the young, elderly and other sensitive groups -- are advised to not only take health precautions for themselves, but also for their pets and livestock.

"The rapid increase in temperatures may not provide adequate time for acclimation to the heat, further increasing risk of heat-related illnesses in the impacted areas," NWS stated. "... Pets, crops and livestock may demand extra care through the warm and dry weather."

With this type of heat also comes an increased risk of wildfires, forecasters advised.

Sunday is currently forecast to be the warmest day of this heat streak, with some local areas at or above triple digit temperatures or up to 20 degrees above normal, according to NWS.
