Napa Fitness Center Hosts Charity Workout for Hurricane Harvey Survivors

CTS Fitness & Performance raises $1,900 in less than an hour.

Napa’s top sports performance and fitness training destination recently hosted a charity work out to raise funds for families devastated by Hurricane Harvey. The special 45-minute session by CTS Fitness & Performance raised $1,900 through donations from participants and the fitness center’s own dollar-for-dollar matching effort.

Napa, California (September 11, 2017) – Physical fitness is not just good for the body. Sometimes, it can also help make a difference in times of crisis.

This is exactly what CTS Fitness & Performance proved when they recently hosted a charity workout for the benefit of Hurricane Harvey survivors. A leading sports performance and fitness training center in Napa, the team, led by founder John Cortese, organized a special 45-minute workout session for its members. Around 50 people joined the workout-for-a-cause session and each of them was asked a minimum of $5 to participate. CTS Fitness & Performance then matched all the money raised from contributions, dollar for dollar.

The fitness community’s combined efforts raised a total of $1,900 which was donated to the J. J. Watt Houston Flood Relief Fund via YouCaring.com. The titular relief fund hosted by the Houston Texans defensive end has already reached the US$30 million mark.

Hurricane Harvey smashed into Texas on August 25, causing torrential flooding to Houston and other nearby areas. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has called it “the worst disaster the state has seen.” Uninsured losses in the aftermath of the Category 4 hurricane have been estimated at US$190-200 billion. Some reports have detailed the various risks that survivors and evacuees face including health issues aggravated by disease-carrying mosquitoes, lack of medicinal supplies and post-traumatic stress disorder.

“This is not the first time we’ve done this, so after seeing the devastation caused by Harvey, my team and I knew that we had to do something,” Cortese said. “We are extremely grateful for the support of our members. The CTS Fitness & Performance family is as much about helping our brothers and sisters in need as it is about fitness and conditioning.”
