Napa Metro Area Among Best Places To Work In Manufacturing: List

The Napa metro area ranked among the top 25 places on a list by SmartAsset.

NAPA, CA — Already a world-renowned wine region, the Napa Valley is gaining recognition for the manufacturing that takes place here. A new list ranks the Napa metro area among the Top 25 "Best Places To Work in Manufacturing — 2019 Edition."

According to SmartAsset, the manufacturing industry accounts for 8 percent of the U.S. workforce. While those 12.8 million employees are scattered nationwide, some parts of the country offer better employment opportunities and income growth for them.

To find the best places to work in manufacturing, SmartAsset studied 376 metro areas in the U.S. by examining the percentage of the workforce employed by the manufacturing industry, job and income growth over a one-year period, and how average incomes compare to median annual housing costs in each metro area.

The Napa metro area tied with the Bowling Green, Kentucky metro area as the 24th best place to work in manufacturing.

According to SmartAsset's study:

— 19 percent of the Napa metro area's workforce is in manufacturing;

— the number of manufacturing jobs in the Napa metro area was up 8 percent over a one-year period;

— manufacturing incomes grew by 4.3 percent over a one-year period in the Napa metro area; and

— housing costs were 28.8 percent of the average manufacturing income in the Napa metro area.

Napa County was one of two West Coast metro areas, and the only one in California, to make SmartAsset's list.
