Napa’s Oldest Winery Backs Dealcoholized Wine Brand

Charles Krug's parent company will supply grapes and help Missing Thorn expand its national distribution.

NAPA VALLEY, CA — The family behind Napa’s oldest winery is expanding its reach by helping bring dealcoholized wine to more drinkers.

C. Mondavi & Family, which owns Charles Krug, will be backing the endeavor through a partnership with Napa-based Missing Thorn, Wine Spectator reported.

Stephanie Honig and Aaron Pott founded Missing Thorn in 2024. The brand produces 10,000 cases annually and prices every bottle at $30 or less, according to Wine Spectator.

The companies are considering a dealcoholized Napa Cabernet Sauvignon or a Cabernet Sauvignon containing Napa Valley grapes.

Winemakers produce dealcoholized wines by making traditional wine first, then removing the alcohol.

Angelina Mondavi, a Charles Krug consulting winemaker and fourth-generation vintner, told Wine Spectator the family wants to adapt to changing consumers.

“We don’t want to be stagnant,” Mondavi told Wine Spectator.

Many consumers choose no- and low-alcohol wines to moderate their drinking, according to IWSR.

But NielsenIQ reported in 2025 that 92 percent of nonalcoholic beer, wine, and spirits buyers also purchased alcoholic products.

Honig told Wine Spectator that Missing Thorn’s own customer data showed an average age of 45 in 2025.
