NORTH BAY, CA — Running is hard work and deserves a reward. So if you are going to run a half-marathon, run those 13.1 miles somewhere with beautiful scenery, like North Bay Wine Country, San Francisco or La Jolla. Races in each of the three California locales made it onto a Forbes list released just last month of "The Top 7 Most Scenic Half Marathons In The U.S."

The Forbes list describes the Napa To Sonoma Half-Marathon as a "curvaceous route that is dynamic and challenging" with views ranging from vineyards, ranches and farms to wide-open spaces and the waters of San Pablo Bay.

This year's race is set for July 18-19. Not feeling ready for a half-marathon? That's OK because the first day of the event, Saturday, July 18, is set aside for the Rosé 5K, with a 5K being just over 3 miles.

"We love visiting wineries not only for the tastings, but also for the views. What could be better than spending the morning running past vineyards, working farms, and sprawling ranches in wine country? The Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon is one of the most lovely courses you’ll ever see. This curvaceous route, which begins at Cuvaison Carneros Winery, is dynamic and challenging. You’ll ascend hills, enjoy wide open spaces with panoramic views, and see Napa-Sonoma Marshes Wildlife Preserve, San Pablo Bay, and Mt. Tamalpais. And, of course, you’ll spot many animals—donkeys, llamas, chickens, pigs, sheep, and goats—as you make your way to the end of the course.
"After the Race: Plan on attending the post-race wine festival, included in the admission price."

Race participants receive goodies galore, including a commemorative wine glass (because of course!) and tasting opportunities from at least 40 vineyards.
