NAPA VALLEY, CA — For the first time in its 17-year history, the annualNapa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon will not be held in July, as it now is rescheduled for Dec. 12-13 due to coronavirus concerns, organizers said today.

Race officials made the decision after monitoring pandemic updates over recent months from county, state and federal health agencies, coupled withSonoma County suspending special-event permits through July, directors said.

“As everyone is aware, COVID-19 has changed the running community and is causing races to be postponed or be canceled entirely, and our operations team had been proactively working with the local authorities on an alternative date for the second Sunday in December,” said Sean Harrington, race director. “In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation and will make the necessary changes per government and public health department recommendations.”

Runners who registered for the July 19 race are automatically moved to the new date or will be given other options if they are unable to participate in December, officials said.
