The Napa Stormers Rugby Club is starting preparations in anticipation of the 2015 season. Registration for the Stormers will take place online at www.NapaStormers.com , beginning Monday, November 3rd. A mandatory open house for all players and parents will take place on November 23rd, and the annual Kick-Off Camp is on Sunday November 30th.
Capping off a successful 2014 season, the team finished its second year as a club with an undefeated NorCal Championship for the JV team, and a top 4 finish for the Varsity team in the Northern California Youth Rugby Association. Doubling its membership, the Stormers also completed their first tour, heading down to Southern California to take on teams from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo over the President’s Day Weekend. Another tour is in the works for the 2015 team, but details are yet to be announced.
Rugby is currently the fastest growing sport in the United States, and shows no signs of slowing. Even on the national level, USA Rugby is continuing to gain credibility within a sport dominated primarily by teams from various European, African, and South Pacific Countries. The USA Eagles have earned their spot into the Rugby World Cup, taking place in England in 2015. The National team is also making headlines and gaining notoriety via a nationally televised match against the popular New Zealand All Blacks, in front of a sold out 75,000 Soldier Field crowd in Chicago on November 1st.

The Stormers will once again plan on fielding two squads. The Junior Varsity team will make up players from grades 8-10, and the Varsity squad will primarily be fielded with High School juniors and seniors. Player registration fees are kept low at $190, due to the support of The Napa Sheriffs Activities League (“S.A.L”), and other Napa Valley corporate sponsors.
No experience is required to play for the Stormers, nor the does the team perform tryouts or cuts. In addition, rugby does not require the added expense of costly equipment; all that is needed to play is a pair of cleats, and a mouth guard. The team will provide sponsored uniforms for game days.
