Napa Woman Arrested In Baby-Abuse Case

The tiny victim, a 7-week-old infant, was suffering from skull and bone fractures when admitted to a Vallejo hospital, police said.

NAPA, CA – A 35-year-old Napa woman was arrested Wednesday for suspected child abuse after a lengthy investigation that began when a 7-week-old infant suffering seizures and with skull and bone fractures was brought to an emergency room, authorities said.

Jacqueline Javar met and was interviewed by Napa Police Department detectives, was arrested and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on suspicion of willful harm, injury or neglect of a child, the agency said.

Police did not disclose the relationship between Javar and the baby, except to say they lived together at a residence on the 1400 block of Lincoln Avenue in Napa.

The investigation began the morning of Dec. 16 at about 7:30 a.m. when Javar brought the female infant, who was suffering from "severe seizures," to the emergency room at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center, police said. Doctors and medical experts determined the baby also had "significant skull fractures, as well as bone fractures in other areas of her body," injuries purportedly consistent with child abuse, police said.

After notification from Kaiser staff, Napa detectives interviewed Javar on multiple occasions regarding the infant's injuries, as well as an investigation that was conducted by Napa County Child Welfare Department, the agency said. The child has been released from the hospital and placed in custody of Child Welfare Services, police said.
