NVC Presents Spring Music Series
'Music Napa Valley' features Guest Ensembles, Student Performers. Shows run April 17 - May 15, 2016.
Napa, Calif– Music Napa Valley presents four weekends of performances from its treasured music ensembles, on stage at Napa Valley College’s Performing Arts Center April 17 – May 15th. Spring season concerts include presentations from Napa Valley College Chorale, North Bay Wind Ensemble (NBWE), Napa Valley Voice Students, Napa Valley College Jazz Ensemble Stormwatch, the Napa Valley College Orchestra, and guest ensemble, Eloquence String Quartet.
SUN. APRIL 17TH 3PM | LORD NELSON MASS performed by the COLLEGE CHORALE
Kicking off the spring’s performance series, the College Chorale will take the NVC stage with Joseph Haydn’s Missa in Angustiis, universally known as the LORD NELSON MASS. Led by Director Dr. Eve-Anne Wilkes, this will be the group’s debut performance of Haydn’s 1798 masterwork, which they will also perform this June at the International Choral Festival in Limerick, Ireland. Guest ensemble, the Eloquence String Quartet, opens show with a performance of the Afro-Caribbean inspired Danzas De Panama by 20th century American composer William Grant Still.
SUN. APRIL 24th 3PM | TIMBRES & TEXTURES performed by the NORTH BAY WIND ENSEMBLE
The North Bay Wind Ensemble (NBWE) carries a full-symphonic quality through timbres of differing instrumental sections in TIMBRES & TEXTURES, featuring popular selections for band. Directed by Harry Cadelago, this performance will feature “commanding sound and musicality,” including a stunning clarinet solo from composer Bernhard Henrik Crusell performed by Roberta “Bobbie” J. Textor, a former touring member of the U.S. Air Force Band of Flight, the 530th Air National Guard Band of the South, Air National Guard Band of the West Coast, and U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band (USAFE).

SAT. MAY 7th 8PM | SOLOS & VOCAL WORKS performed by NVC VOCAL STUDENTS
The second of two biannual recitals featuring NVC vocal students, May’s performances will include solos and vocal works from musical theater along with contemporary songs, art songs and popular opera selections, accompanied by pianist Mark Osten. This performance is free to the public.
FRI. MAY 13th 8PM | COOL JAZZ performed by NVC JAZZ ENSEMBLE STORMWATCH
The Napa Valley College Jazz Ensemble is a traditional Big Band. Directed by Brian Simpson, COOL JAZZ will highlight jazz’s rhythmic excitement and spirit, while also celebrating its cool, melodic sounds.
SUN. MAY 15th 3PM | SYMPHONIC EVOLUTION performed by the NVC ORCHESTRA
Directed by Harry Cadelago, their culminating performance and the last of Music Napa Valley’s spring series, SYMPHONIC EVOLUTION, will feature a dynamic symphonic repertoire, including Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures from an Exhibition.
