By NVOS artist Davina Rubin
NVOS Artist Patti Wessman’s current “obsession” is casting glass. She sculpts with clay, making a plaster mold of the piece, removes the clay, filling the empty mold with recycled glass, and fires it. She also uses recycled glass in her glass “quilts” and “pod” pieces.
Patti’s inspiration comes from the patterns and structures in nature. Her means of expressing these inspirations is through texture and color. What is especially unique about her work is her development of a method of casting recycled glass, and her development of a way to encase natural objects in what she calls glass “pods.”
Patti is included in the 2013 “American Art Collectors” book. She has had a number of public art commissions over the years, the most recent being a permanent outdoor installation at the Tres Sabores Winery.Patti currently shares a studio with four other artists in the old historic “Napa Box Building.”
You'll find her there during Open Studios, at Studio #2 – G studio – at 421 Walnut Street #212, in Napa, California. And you can see more of her work online at her website, at www.pattiwessman.com
