by NVOS artist Karen Lynn Ingalls
New NVOS artist Ann Nunziata creates images with digital photography, and also works in pastels and watercolors. She notes that "it really is true that you look at things differently with an artist's perspective."Of her artwork, Ann says, "I am excited by color and the mysterious effects that changing light can have. I enjoy trying to capture those fleeting moments, and participating in venues that allow me to share those impressions. I hope to convey to the viewer the same enjoyment that I feel when I create my art."
The inspiration for Ann's work comes from her home on the beautiful Napa Valley farm where she and her husband live, and where her husband grew up. She has a large garden where she grows all kinds of plants with large collections of roses and lavender, and enjoys watching the deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, and occasional bobcats that wander through.
She also feels fortunate to be able to travel all over the world, and keeps photo journals of their adventures along the way – adventures that include riding through the Bavarian Alps by motorcycle (twice); and traveling by sailboat through Quebec City on the St. Lawrence River; through the lonely fishing villages of Newfoundland and the coast of Cape Breton and Nova Scotia; and along the Eastern seaboard from Maine to the Virginian Chesapeake.
All of this, the more intimate Napa Valley landscapes around her home, and the scenes of the larger world, become subject matter for Ann's artwork, whether digital or created by hand.
You can see Ann's artwork at Studio #28, in Napa, California, in the recently completed craftsman style home on the farm which took them six years to build (living in an RV during the entire time). And you can see her work online, too, atwww.FlyingPigDesign.com.
Trained as an engineer at Stanford, it was no mistake that Ann was drawn to the creative atmosphere and technology of Apple Computer. Now she focuses what she learned about the technology of color on her evolving images.
NVOS artist Karen Lynn Ingalls writes for this blog and our Facebook page (seen it yet?) and paints, paints, paints. You can see her artwork during Open Studios at Studio #48, with Sequoia Buck, west of Calistoga, and online at www.KarenLynnIngalls.com. She also teaches art classes and workshops, which you can find at www.NapaValleyArtWorkshops.com.
