By NVOS artist Robert Zlomke
NVOS artist Mark Mattioli – our 2012 catalog cover feature artist – draws and paints from his daily observations of people, places and things. He has been a working artist for 29 years, and has participated in Open Studios for many of those years.
Mark took the plunge into self-employment in 1984, when he launched Mattioli’s In Your Pocket Guides, a series of quirky illustrated maps of wine country towns. He has been exhibiting his art work since 1991.
Mark uses sketch books daily and works from imagination as well as observation. He has a keen eye for formal elements in the visual world and is not shy about borrowing from books, films, and architectural sources – especially when he finds a humorous theme. He works in a space that was built to be a studio, with good light and visual beauty.
You'll find Mark at Studio #27, 1038 Fabiola Drive, in Napa, California. You can also see his artwork on the web at www.markmattioli.com. And, until September 7th, you can see his work, along with the photographs of Elizabeth Bush, inMare Island Now, at the Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum, in Vallejo, California.
Robert Zlomke makes custom wood furniture in Napa, mixing hand and machine methods to achieve unique visual and tactile results. He is exhibiting in Studio #1 at NVOS 2013. www.zlomkefurniture.com
