One Dead In 5-Vehicle Collision On Highway 29: Napa Police

Police said according to preliminary information one driver drove south in the northbound lanes and hit four vehicles going north.

NAPA, CA — Northbound state Highway 29 will be closed into the earlier afternoon Sunday over the Napa River between state Highway 221 and state Highway 121 because of a fatal crash, Napa police said.

The CHP said initially that the crash involved two vehicles, but Napa police now say five vehicles collided. The crash was reported at 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Multiple people called 911 to report the crash as a major injury crash just north of the George F. Butler Memorial Bridge, according to police.

One driver died at the scene while two others and two passengers were taken to hospitals, police said. Two other drivers escaped injury.
