Quote from Book By Dr. Adrian D. Fenderson entitled "It's All About Smiles--Passions from a Dentist on Health, Healing and Happiness"

Chapter 25 of my book deals with the scientifically proven relationships between mouth infections and diseases of the body. Here is a quote from that chapter:

"Gum disease, known as periodontal disease, can contribute to diabetes and can increase the risk of stroke, preterm births, low birth weight, respiratory disease, and pancreatic cancer. This chapter will talk more about its relationship to heart disease, (cardiovascular disease) as that is where most of the research is. For years there have been hints and hypotheses that heart disease and periodontal disease are associated, or share factors. One of the first large studies (9760 participants over 17 years) found that those with periodontal disease had a 25 percent increased risk of coronary heart disease relative to those with minimal periodontal disease."
