Person In Wheelchair Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver In St. Helena: PD

The victim was airlifted from St. Helena to a Napa hospital. Meanwhile, the driver remained at large, according to St. Helena police.

ST. HELENA, CA — A person in a wheelchair was struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday night in St. Helena and remained hospitalized Wednesday, the St. Helena Police Department said.

The crash happened at 9:07 p.m. Tuesday on Main Street — state Highway 29 — at Spring Street in the city of St. Helena, police Lt. Justin Tharp said in a news release.

"A pedestrian in a wheelchair was crossing west on Main Street in the crosswalk, when the person was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound," Tharp said. "The vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on Spring Street and was described as a Toyota Corolla, silver in color, with noticeable front-end damage."

The Toyota Corolla and its driver were still at large Wednesday and remained unidentified, the lieutenant said.

The victim was stabilized at the scene by paramedics with AMR and the St. Helena Fire Department, then taken to the St. Helena Primary School where they were airlifted by CHP helicopter to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was listed in stable condition Wednesday.

"The St. Helena Police Department is actively investigating the incident and collecting evidence from the area," Tharp said.
