PG&E All Clear: Service Restored To 11K In Napa County

In Napa County, 26-percent of impacted customers had their power back on as of 11:30 am. Thursday.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — UPDATED 7:21 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21: As of 5 p.m. Thursday, essentially all customers — 99 percent— in Napa and 10 other counties impacted by this week's PG&E public safety power shutoff had their service restored, the utility company said.

The shutoff began early Wednesday morning amid a red-flag warning, and impacted 50,000 customers. Once the "all-clear" for improved weather was given around 2 a.m. Thursday, PG&E said its crews began inspecting equipment and restoring service.

"PG&E so far has four confirmed reports of damage to its system in the PSPS-impacted areas," said Deanna Contreras, PG&E's North Bay Spokeswoman.

With service restored to essentially all impacted customers in Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Shasta, Solano, Sonoma, Tehama and Yolo, PG&E said its Community Resource Centers will not be open Friday.

The shutoff impacted approximately 3,552 distribution circuit miles, and approximately 325 circuit miles of transmission lines, in Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Shasta, Solano, Sonoma, Tehama and Yolo counties, Contreras said.

"Wind speeds exceeding 50 mph were recorded Wednesday morning in most of these counties, including wind speeds over 70 mph in Sonoma County," she said.

According to PG&E, Mendocino County had a maximum wind speed of 44 mph during the shutoff period; Shasta County's max wind speed was 49 mph, Napa County's was 50 mph, Colusa County's was 53 mph, Butte County's was 54 mph and in Sonoma County, a 73-mph wind was recorded.

ORIGINAL POST, Thursday, Nov. 21: Power restoration was underway Thursday in Napa County and the North Bay, with electric service back on for 26 percent of 11,556 customers in Napa County as of 11:30 a.m.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. says pending any damages to system equipment, it expects to restore service by Thursday night to all 50,000 customers who lost power in Wednesday's fire-weather related Public Safety Power Shutoff.

Winds speeds exceeding 50 mph were recorded in some of the affected counties and were over 70 mph in Sonoma County during the shutoff, according to PG&E.

Power was cut around 7 a.m. Wednesday, and at 2 a.m. Thursday, the company issued a weather "all clear" for all counties impacted by the shutoff. By 6 a.m., PG&E said it had restored power to an initial 10,000 customers impacted by the Nov. 20 PSPS. At 11 a.m., 55 percent had their power on, the company said.

In Napa County, the outage affected parts of Angwin, Calistoga, Deer Park, Lake Berryessa, Napa, Oakville, Pope Valley, Rutherford, St. Helena and Yountville.

The city of Calistoga said police and fire personnel will continue conducting safety checks during the outage.

Following issuance of the all-clear, PG&E says safety patrols and inspections, which take place during daylight hours, will continue throughout the day Thursday.

"Resources supporting the restoration include more than 5,500 on-the-ground field personnel and 45 helicopters," said PG&E North Bay Spokeswoman Deanna Contreras.

As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday in neighboring Sonoma County, power had been restored to 59 percent of 7,962 impacted customers in parts of Glen Ellen, Kenwood, Monte Rio, Santa Rosa and Villa Grande, according to PG&E.

In Solano County, the utility had restored power to 59 percent of 133 customers in parts of Suisun City and Vacaville.

In Lake County, where 12,380 customers lost power, 55 percent had their power back on by 11:30 a.m.

For 162 shutoff customers in the Hopland area of Mendocino County, 99 percent of service was restored.

In Yolo County, 24 percent of 351 affected customers in the Brooks, Guinda and Rumsey areas had power by 11:30 a.m.

PG&E is updating the locations and open status of Community Resource Centers for those without power at Pge.com/pspsupdates.
