Unbelievable Scenes From Monstrous Rocky Fire: 62,000 Acres Consumed Monday P.M.

The fire raging in the Northern California counties of Lake, Colusa and Yolo, known as #RockyFire, has consumed 62,000 acres with containment at 12 percent, according to a Monday evening update from Cal Fire.

Residents affected by evacuation orders now total 13,118 from more than 5,530 homes, the department said.

“Firefighters are working aggressively to build control lines and sustain perimeter control,” Cal Fire said.

The agency is projecting total containment by Aug. 10.

Twenty-four homes are destroyed, along with 26 outbuildings. Structures threatened number 6,301 as of this evening.

Fire personnel number 3,145, an increase from this morning’s 2,983, the department said.

The cause of the blaze, which began Wednesday afternoon, is undetermined and under investigation.

Monday, Aug. 3, 4:45 p.m.

From Cal Fire:

“A spot fire from the #RockyFire has jumped Highway 20 and has burned 50 acres. Crews are aggressively attacking it.”

UPDATE a short time later:

“The spot fire of the #RockyFire north of Hwy 20 in the Walker Ridge area has now burned 100+ acres. This area was evacuated earlier.”

Monday, Aug. 3, 8 a.m.

The Rocky Fire, raging in Lake, Colusa and Yolo counties in Northern California, has consumed 60,000 acres as of this morning, according to Cal Fire. Containment, however, has progressed to 12 percent.

“The fire activity has grown dramatically and firefighters are aggressively working to stop the progression,” Cal Fire said. ”In total, all evacuations impact over 12,190 citizens living in over 5,201 residences.”

Twenty-four homes are destroyed, along with 26 outbuildings. Structures threatened number 6,301 as of this morning.

Fire personnel total 2, 983, the department said.
