St. Helena Man Accused Of Assaulting Roommate With Deadly Weapon

The roommate suffered a head injury and told officers he was hit with a blunt object.

ST. HELENA, CA — A St. Helena man remained behind bars Friday after police say he assaulted his roommate with a deadly weapon, causing a head injury that required hospitalization.

Officers were dispatched at 12:45 p.m. Thursday to a report about an assault with a blunt object in the 600 block of McCorkle Avenue; when they arrived they saw a man with a head injury walking toward them.

Officers learned he was the victim who'd called 911. The victim told police his roommate had just assaulted him and was still inside their residence.

Officers escorted the man to a safe location where he could receive medical treatment from paramedics who were standing by. The victim was ultimately taken to an area hospital for additional medical treatment.

Because of the possibility the roommate was barricaded inside, St. Helena police requested additional support from allied agencies, including the Napa County Sheriff's Office and the Calistoga Police Department.

As law enforcement personnel were setting up a perimeter, the roommate, identified by police as 40-year-old Juan Carlos Jimenez-Vazquez, came outside and surrendered.

Vazquez was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on suspicion of alleged assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, vandalism and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Jail records showed Vazquez remained in custody Friday with his bail set at $50,000.

Police did not immediately say what type of blunt object the roommate was struck with, nor what type of controlled substance Vazquez was suspected of using at the time of the incident.
