Traffic Alert: Storm Repair To Close Northbound Silverado Trail

ST. HELENA, CA — Crews with Napa County Public Works will begin pouring concrete at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 for a large retaining wall on Silverado Trail at Pratt to hold in place the hill that collapsed during the 2017 storms.

County officials said they expect the concrete pour to take at least 12 hours; it may take longer, however, because the pour has to be done continuously, meaning once it starts, it can not be stopped.

During the day Tuesday, northbound and southbound traffic will be controlled to alternate around the construction site, according to a traffic advisory from Napa County Public Works.

At 3 p.m., traffic on Silverado Trail at Pratt will be controlled such that only southbound traffic (i.e. the commute direction) will be allowed. No northbound traffic will be allowed past the construction site from 3 p.m. until the concrete pouring work is complete. Once work is complete, two lanes of traffic will be restored, according to the county.

The city of St. Helena released the following statement about traffic at the construction site Tuesday, Aug. 27:

Since the start of the project, the county has stopped work at 3 p.m. each day to ensure two lanes of traffic were available for the afternoon commute. The following plan will be in place if the county cannot restore two lanes of traffic by 3 p.m. Tuesday:

—At 3 p.m., traffic on Silverado Trail at Pratt will be controlled that only Southbound traffic will be allowed; No northbound traffic will be allowed past the construction site

— Changeable message Boards will be placed at Trancas, Zinfandel and Pope St., saying "Northbound ST closed at Pratt 3 p.m. to 7 p.m."

— Napa County Roads will setup a hard barrier at Meadowood Dr. to either turn northbound strays around, or allow them through if they are local traffic.

—St. Helena Police Department, CHP and Napa County Sheriff will all be assisting.

— If the county finishes the work before 3 p.m. — or as soon as they finish after 3 p.m.— the signs will be de-energized and two lanes of traffic will be restored.
