Tried And True; Red, White And Blue: Photos Of The Day

American flags are seen on display this Memorial Day at California Veterans Home-Yountville.

NAPA VALLEY, CA — American flags are seen on display in observance of Memorial Day at Veterans Home of California in Yountville in these photos by Al Francis. The veterans home which dates back to 1884 is the largest of its kind in the United States, currently housing 1,000 aged or disabled veterans of World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A ceremony was planned for 10 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Home Cemetery in observance of Memorial Day, a federal holiday observed the last Monday of each May in tribute to military service members who died while serving their country.
