Distinguished researchers from a number of the country’s leading cancer research centers will discuss the latest advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment in a Cancer Research Symposium hosted by The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Members of the Scientific Advisory Committee of The V Foundation will describe current advances and discoveries into clinical applications, new diagnostics and alternative treatments to cancer at the two-hour session hosted by The V Foundation and led by Robert C. Bast Jr., M.D., vice president for translational research at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

The symposium will feature Jonathon Simon, MD, president and CEO, Prostate Cancer Foundation. Additionally, V Scholar recipient Felix Yi-Chung Feng, MD, associate professor, radiation oncology, UCSF School of Medicine, will discuss his V Foundation-funded research.

Levi Garraway, MD, PhD, from the Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, will discuss the work his laboratory is pursuing on genomic and functional approaches to the characterization of human solid tumors, with an emphasis on melanoma and prostate cancer. He will also discuss a unique form of convergence research being funded by The V Foundation. Additionally, Michael Kastan, MD, PhD, executive director, Duke Cancer Institute, will discuss the work being done by the Consortium for Canine Comparative Oncology, a collaboration between the Duke Cancer Institute and North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine

Following the presentations, all members of the Scientific Advisory Committee in attendance will be available for a Q&A session, offering attendees the opportunity to direct questions to some of the top physicians in the country.

Following the symposium, and new this year, is the All Stars of Research Reception & Super Silent Auction at Groezinger Estate on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to spend time with the world-class cancer specialists in attendance, sample food and wine and peruse the rare finds at the Super Silent Auction. 

The symposium is part of The V Foundation’s 18th Annual Wine Celebration weekend, its yearly signature event to raise funds for cancer research, however the symposium is free and open to the public.
