Verizon Wireless Set To Expand to LTE Coverage in Napa Valley on Thursday

Customers users will see a significant increase in data speeds.

If your cell phone service provider is Verizon, you'll be in for a treat starting tomorrow.

Verizon will start providing 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) data speeds from its cell towers in the Napa Valley to customers on Thursday, July 19 according to a press release. Napa, Coombsville, Yountsville, Calistoga, Sonoma some parts of Angwin and Highway 29 from Napa to St. Helena are all expected to receive enhanced coverage according to the release.

“The continued expansion of our 4G LTE network in the Bay Area’s wine country further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with the highest quality communications technology,” said Russ Preite in the release, the region president for Verizon Wireless. Preite said that customers will be able to enjoy streaming speeds up 10 times faster with LTE service.

The move is part of an expansion of Verizon's current LTE coverage in 32 markets and the launch of 33 new markets on the same day. Verizon first introduced the LTE network in the Bay Area in December 2010. With the new and expanded markets, the company’s 4G LTE network will be available to 337 markets in the United States.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE.
