Vintage High Grad From Napa Killed In Thousand Oaks Bar Shooting

Alaina Housley, whose parents, Arik and Hannah, own Ranch Markets Napa Valley, died in the Borderline Bar & Grill massacre.

NAPA, CA – Alaina Housley, 18, a 2018 graduate from Vintage High School in Napa, died in the mass shooting at a Thousand Oaks bar and grill Wednesday night, her uncle and former Fox News national correspondent Adam Housley confirmed.

The freshman at Pepperdine University In Malibu remained unaccounted for Thursday morning, and Housley told the Los Angeles Times her Apple Watch and iPhone continued to show her location as the dance floor at Borderline Bar & Grill.

"Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night's shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks," Adam Housley and his wife, "The Real" host Tamera Mowry-Housley, stated via their joint representative, Chantal Artur. "Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her, and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner."

Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, expressed condolences to the families of all the victims, including Alaina's, who is the daughter of Arik and Hannah Housely, who own Ranch Markets Napa Valley in Yountville and Napa.

"This terrible tragedy strikes especially close to home in Napa because we lost one of our own. My thoughts and condolences are with Alaina’s family as they face this unspeakable nightmare," Dodd said.

“Alaina Housley ... was a beautiful young woman full of life and ambition," the Napa County Sheriff's Office said. "She moved to Southern California to further her education so she could contribute to society, however her dreams were destroyed by a senseless act. The fact that Alaina will never have an opportunity to fulfill her goals is heartbreaking.

"Our condolences go out to the Housley family, the family of Ventura County Sheriff's Sergeant Ron Helus and the families of the other ten victims who died during this horrible tragedy in Thousand Oaks.”

Thirteen people died in the shooting, including the gunman and the sheriff's sergeant, Helus, and an estimated 20 were injured.

Helus, 54, was on the phone with his wife when he got the shooting call. He arrived within minutes to the nightclub, was the first inside and was shot multiple times, according to Ventura Sheriff's deputies.

"(Ron Helus) was a mentor to so many young deputies, and was a true hero," Capt. Garo Kuredjian of the Ventura department said. "He trained extensively for active-shooting scenarios. His actions no doubt saved the lives of others whom he didn't even know."

A law enforcement procession in honor of Helus lined the Ventura Freeway Thursday afternoon.

The hooded gunman, identified as 28-year-old former Marine and Cal State Northridge student Ian David Long, a Newbury Park resident who died at the scene, reportedly tossed smoke bombs into the Borderline Bar & Grill and opened fire just before 11:30 p.m.

He used a legally purchased .45-caliber Glock handgun with an extended magazine, according to officials, who added they do not know if Long reloaded the gun during the incident and do not know how many rounds were in the weapon.

A neighbor of Long's told reporters he was known to suffer from PTSD. He lived with his elderly mother and was known to kick in the walls of the home in fits of rage, neighbor Richard Berge, 77, told the Los Angeles Times.
