Voting After Relocating Just Got Easier In Napa County
Napa County has joined the new statewide voter registration system.

News from the County of Napa:
Napa County last week became the 33rd county to join VOTECAL, the new statewide voter registration system. As all 58 counties move to the system by spring 2016, VOTECAL will treat voters as state voters rather than county voters. That means those who move from one county to another in California can remain eligible to vote without having to re-register.
VOTECAL also will allow eligible driver license and state ID card first-time applicants, and those renewing their licenses or changing their address, to be registered to vote automatically at the DMV unless they choose not to register.

“California ranks 44th in the nation in its yield of eligible voters who register to vote,” said John Tuteur, Napa County Registrar of Voters. “VOTECAL will help California and Napa County to meet our goals of greater citizen involvement and better turnout at elections.”
VOTECAL was created by the California Secretary of State to meet the requirements of the 2002 Federal Help America Vote Act, which mandated that all states have a statewide voter registration system. In addition to making life easier for voters and those who wish to register to vote, VOTECAL will create efficiencies for both the Secretary of State and local county election divisions. There were no costs to Napa County for joining VOTECAL.
