• IPS Nationwide Security Company Plans 262 Layoffs in California (edhat.com) — Hundreds of local jobs are at risk as security firm IPS Nationwide plans to permanently lay off 212 workers in Newark this November, according to a state WARN filing. Another 50 positions will be cut in Costa Mesa, while the notice offers no details on which roles are affected, why the reductions are happening, or whether any support or reassignment will be offered to Newark employees.
   

• Bay Area lodging company buys Newark hotel for $12 million (mercurynews.com) — A major Newark lodging property, the Courtyard Newark Silicon Valley on Newark Boulevard, has been sold for $12 million to San Mateo-based Stay Cal Hospitality, well below typical Northern California hotel prices. The new owner, which already operates several Bay Area hotels, financed the deal with a $13.2 million loan and specializes in independent and branded properties, signaling potential changes in how this key local hotel is managed and marketed.
