BART Plans Track Closures This Weekend

Expect delays of 20-40 minutes on the impacted East Bay lines.

BART is planning track closures in the East Bay this Saturday and on two weekends in July for necessary electrical and track installation work, BART officials said.

Crews will close one track Saturday between the South Hayward and Fremont stations to do electrical work, causing delays of 20 to 40 minutes as trains use just one track to take passengers through the area.

BART was also planning to close the track on Sunday, but canceled the work after learning the Warriors will play Game 7 of the NBA Finals Sunday at Oakland's Oracle Arena.

On the July 4th weekend and over the weekend of July 16 and 17, BART passengers will need to take a bus between the Fremont and South Hayward stations to allow the agency to prepare for the expansion of its Hayward maintenance center and for its Silicon Valley extension.

Crews will be installing crossover tracks, which allow trains to switch between tracks.

Ten to 15 free buses will run two routes. One route will take passengers between the South Hayward and Fremont stations and another will take passengers between the South Hayward and Union City stations, BART officials said.

All buses will be accessible to people with disabilities and paratransit buses will also be in operation.

Passengers should plan to add 30 minutes to an hour to their trips, according to BART officials.

Passengers planning to drive to a BART station should consider catching a train at the Hayward station because parking is free on the weekends and the lot has more than 1,400 spaces.
