Batter Up! American Little League Starts New Season

Friends and family celebrated opening day ceremonies Saturday at Newark Junior High School.

Correction, March 17 – In a photo caption, Patch originally identified Newark American Little League president Shawn Murphy as the man in the photo who was talking during opening day ceremonies. A Newark Patch reader informed us that the man in the photo was actually Newark American board member Ed Thometz. Patch corrected the man’s identity in the photo caption.

Newark American Little League players and families enjoyed warm, sunny weather at for Opening Day Saturday.

The league's ceremony started with Newark Junior High student Emily Baca, who sang the national anthem. Next, 4-year-old Dominic Arthur sang "God Bless America."

All players marched in the Parade of Teams as parents cheered them on and snapped away with cameras.
