Calling All Lovers of Pollinators
Have you ever dreamed of becoming a Master Gardener? The Alameda County Master Gardeners offers such training for roughly $260.

Borrowing from Alameda County Master Gardeners’ amazing vision, we’d like to spearhead the creation of a new open space—a Newark Demonstration Garden, with many showy native plants supplied by the Native Plants Nursery at SF Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge.
We’d like this garden to showcase CA native drought-tolerant plants and sustainable landscaping techniques, and provide learning and volunteer opportunities for home gardeners on design, planting, and maintenance. Our goal is to provide an open space that unites the community.
We’re currently in the site feasibility phase of this project. So far one site catches our eye: an SFPUC parcel at Ash Street Park. This parcel is in a popular neighborhood park in Old Town, providing a unique opportunity to enrich a park that needs a little TLC. Adjacent to Head Start, Newark Senior Center, and Newark Christian Center, this garden offers an unusual open space to a number of underserved groups, though it’s for all Newark residents to enjoy.

There’s a lot that needs to come together to make this project happen, especially the cultivation of a skilled gardening society in Newark. If it’s a dream of yours to become a Master Gardener or create a social group with like-minded gardeners, join us.
