Car Burglaries: Newark Police Receive $750,000 Grant

The department plans to work collaboratively with other cities that received grants.

NEWARK, CA — The Newark Police Department received a $750,000 grant to combat vehicle burglaries.

The check, from California Assemblymember Kansen Chu, was one of five that went to local police departments. The other departments are Fremont, Milpitas, Santa Clara and San Jose.

The agencies plan to work collaboratively to address the full scope of auto burglaries, share resources and develop a comprehensive plan to combat the issue, according to a statement released by the Santa Clara Police Department.

Resources will be used to educate the community, buy equipment, and other creative prevention strategies to end auto break-ins in the communities.

The check presentation took place in Milpitas on Friday.
