CHP: Turn Around, Don't Drown

CHP has rescued people from flooded vehicles.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is reminding drivers to Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Several people have been rescued from vehicles that stalled in standing water around the Bay Area Thursday morning. No injuries have been reported.

Standing water is still reported on several highways around the East Bay. The California Department of Transportation (C-DOT) and CHP are working together to clear roadways and keep drivers safe.

Downed trees and spin-outs have also caused problems on roads.

Despite the problems, most drivers are being cautious, accord to Sgt. Deanna McDermott, CHP, “A lot of people are obeying the laws and being courteous.”

McDermott says the drivers should take the same precautions as motorists in snow country--pack blankets, snacks and water in your vehicle in case you get stuck.
