Coroner Identifies Woman Killed Friday in I-880 Crash
Police officials say the woman was killed after she was driving the wrong way on Interstate Highway 880 in Fremont.

The Alameda County coroner’s bureau has identified a woman killed in a head-on collision early Friday morning after driving the wrong way on Interstate Highway 880 in Fremont.
Gina Marie Caudill, 22, was a resident of Santa Clara. Just after 12:30 a.m. Friday, 911 callers reported a driver headed north in the southbound lanes of Highway 880 near Auto Mall Parkway. By 12:35 a.m., callers had reported a collision near Thornton Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Caudill had crashed her 1999 Volvo into a pickup truck head-on.
When officers arrived on scene, Caudill’s vehicle was on fire and she was still trapped inside. Attempts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful, CHP officials said. She died as a result of the crash and subsequent fire, according to the CHP. When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was at risk for spreading to the pickup truck, but firefighters were able to get the flames under control, according to Fremont Acting Deputy Fire Chief Amiel Thurston.
