Fire Briefly Threatened Tri-City Homes Tuesday

NEWARK, CA — A grass fire broke along the train tracks on the Union City and Fremont border Tuesday afternoon. Newark residents were impacted by the fire, according to the firefighters union.

Firefighters from both Alameda County and Fremont responded and worked together to get the flames out. Although the fire only burned about an acre, it threatened homes for a short time, near the train tracks at Hanford Street in Union City and Sedge Street in Fremont.

No injuries were reported, and no homes were damaged.

The Alameda County firefighters union expressed concern on Facebook about staffing in Newark and Union City, now that Union City has closed one of its fire stations.
