Gun, Stolen Vehicle Recovered In Newark
Two suspects were arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

NEWARK, CA — Newark safety cameras recently notified the police department that a vehicle reported as stolen entered Newark on Mowry Avenue. An officer located the occupied stolen vehicle in the 5000 block of Cedar Court.
Additional officers arrived and initiated a high-risk stop.
According to police, "The driver of the stolen vehicle ignored officers' commands and attempted to flee. The suspect then accelerated backwards striking a police patrol vehicle as the officer was attempting to get out of his vehicle."

The officers were not injured but the patrol vehicle is now inoperable.
The suspect, a Hayward man, was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, evading a police officer with wanton disregard for the safety of others, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, and resisting arrest. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

His passenger, a 30-year old woman from Hayward, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. She was also booked at Santa Rita Jail.
