Local Water District Supervisor Elected to National Board

Steve Dennis has dedicated more than 35 years of service to the Alameda County Water District.

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) Board of Directors Saturday elected Alameda County Water District (ACWD) employee Steve Dennis as Vice President during its winter Board meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Dennis, the District’s Emergency Services and Security Supervisor, has dedicated more than 35 years of service to the District and has been an active member of AWWA for 16 years. He previously represented the California/Nevada Section of AWWA as an Association Director and has chaired several committees.

With his years of experience in security protocols and emergency preparedness, Dennis has been instrumental in advancing emergency preparedness and response, crisis communications, and security practices for both ACWD and AWWA.

“I am honored to have been elected to serve as Vice President of AWWA, an internationally-recognized organization that has served the water industry for more than 133 years,” said Dennis. Dennis added that with more than 50,000 members, AWWA is leading the way for industry professionals offering a host of resources from Industry Standards to technical and educational programs.

No stranger to special recognition, Dennis is a past recipient of the George W. Fuller Award for the AWWA California/Nevada Section – AWWA’s highest award.

“ACWD is proud of Steve’s commitment to our agency. His top-notch skills and expertise in safety, security, and emergency response help protect our water supply,” stated ACWD General Manager Robert Shaver. Shaver went on to say Dennis’ skills will contribute to his new leadership role with AWWA.
