Newark Fire Displaces Residents From 12 Apartments
There were no injuries in the blaze.
NEWARK, CA — A fire at an apartment building in Newark on Wednesday afternoon caused the displacement of residents from all 12 units in the building, Alameda County fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 2:29 p.m. at 35560 Haley St. Firefighters arrived and learned a 13-year-old girl was able to safely exit the second-floor apartment where the fire started, fire officials said.
Crews quickly extinguished the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Of the 12 units, one was destroyed in the fire, one had extensive damage from heat, smoke and water, one had moderate smoke, heat and fire damage, three had moderate water damage and six had minor smoke damage.(Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news from your California neighborhood. The residents of all 12 units were displaced as a result of the fire and some found housing with the assistance of family and friends. The American Red Cross responded and helped eight men, five women, one boy and
one girl find temporary shelter, fire officials said.

Two cats were also rescued from the building and reunited with their owners.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
