Newark Firefighters Battle Wildfire In San Bernardino County

Local firefighters have been sent to the far southern end of the state to give firefighters there a break.

NEWARK, CA — Firefighters and their equipment have been sent from Newark to San Bernardino County to battle the El Dorado Fire.

The Alameda County Fire Department shared a photo of Newark Engine 29 in action.

The firefighters have been working 12-hour shifts and was dispatched as an initial attack crew on Sept. 12.

The latest update from Cal Fire at 9 a.m. Thursday: the El Dorado Fire has burned 18,506 acres and is 63-percent contained. Twelve people have been injured by the fire, including firefighters, while 16 structures have been damaged or destroyed. It has been burning for 11 days.
