NEWARK, CA — A 75-year-old woman is alive because of Newark Police Officer Omar Pacheco. He has been honored with a Life-Saving Award, which he humbly accepted this week before the Newark City Council.

Back on Feb. 27, Pacheco was patrolling in the area of Stevenson Boulevard when he noticed a vehicle parked alongside railroad tracks, in an isolated area, concealed by a large bush. The area was flooded because of recent rains.

The officer pulled over and checked the vehicle. Inside, he found the woman who had been missing for two days. According to a NPD posting on social media, "It was later determined that she had run off the road after becoming disoriented and had been there for two days without food, water, or her portable oxygen treatment tank and vital medication."
