Newark Man Arrested on Suspicion of Auto Burglary

Police say the victim got the suspect's license plate number.

NEWARK, CA — Police arrested a 35-year-old Newark man on suspicion of auto burglary Tuesday after he was stopped, searched and allegedly found to be in possession of stolen property taken from a vehicle in Fremont.

Fremont police responded to Tom Maloney Elementary School at 38700 Logan Drive on a report of a vehicle break-in and spoke with the victim, who said she watched a suspect break her window and steal a purse.

The suspect left in another vehicle, and the victim reported its license plate number to investigating officers.

Newark police officers spotted the vehicle shortly afterward, pulled it over and during a subsequent search they found stolen property from the auto burglary in Fremont, according to police.

The suspect's name was not immediately available.
