Newark Package Thief Arrested: Police
Police seized multiple stolen packages and gave them to their intended owners.

NEWARK, CA — A Newark man believed to be responsible for a string of package thefts was arrested by Newark Police recently on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, probation violation, possession of a controlled substance and an outstanding warrant. The suspect's name has not been released at this time.
Police were notified when License Plate Readers detected that a vehicle associated with multiple recent package thefts had entered the City.
Officers located the vehicle and stopped it in the area of Thornton Avenue and Marshlands Road. Several packages stolen out of Newark were found in the vehicle. Those packages have now been returned to their rightful owners.

Police offer these tips to avoid becoming a victim of package theft:
- Have packages delivered to your work.
- Schedule deliveries for times when you will be home. This keeps packages from sitting unattended for long periods of time.
- Buddy up with a neighbor. Either have package delivered to your neighbor if he/she/they are home during the day.
- Require a signature for package drop off.
- Consider using a smart locker.
- Sign up for alerts. USPS has Informed Delivery which is a digital preview of images of your mail and location without entering tracking numbers.
