Newark Police Arrest Alleged Auto Burglars

An alert witness called police to report the crimes in progress.

NEWARK, CA — Newark Police arrested a Richmond couple, accused of committing multiple auto burglaries in the parking lot of B.J.’s Restaurant. David Godfrey and Stephanie Blodgett were both booked into jail.

Police received a call Wednesday night from someone who said he was watching a man burglarize vehicles. When police arrived the suspect fled on foot into an adjacent residential home construction site, police say.

They report, "A perimeter was quickly set around the construction site and after a short foot pursuit; a suspect was taken into custody. The suspect’s girlfriend was also arrested in a vehicle in the B.J.’s parking lot where some of the loss from the burglaries were recovered from."
