Newark Police Arrest Alleged Mail Thieves, Porch Pirates

A Good Samaritan tipped police in a classic "If you see something, say something" scenario.

NEWARK, CA — Two San Jose women, Jessica Koenig and Jamie Rutherford, were arrested in Newark last Friday for allegedly stealing mail and packages in the area of Escallonia Drive. Police received a tip from someone who saw the women at work, providing detailed descriptions of the suspects, the suspect vehicle, and a partial license plate.

According to Newark Police, officers intercepted the vehicle as it was leaving the area. After stopping the vehicle, they found stolen mail and packages from the neighborhood.

The women allegedly provided false names to officers as they were arrested.

As the investigation into the women continued, Newark Police report that "a significant amount of stolen mail, credits cards, personal checks, and personal identifying information of victims in the San Jose area was recovered."

Newark Police have thanked the Good Samaritan who provided information on the women, as well as recognizing Officer Fredstrom for his work on the case.
