Newark Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects Following Chase
The Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit tipped police to a strong arm robbery in progress, and then helped police track the fleeing vehicle.

NEWARK, CA — The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit notified Newark Police that a white Toyota RAV4, recently stolen during a carjacking in another East Bay city, was in Newark, and officers in the air could see the suspects committing a strong-armed robbery in the area of Newark Boulevard and Jarvis Avenue. The victim, whose name is being withheld to protect them, is 75-years-old.
Newark police officers arrived just as the suspects were fleeing.
The aviation unit helped Newark officers follow the SUV from eastbound State Route 84 to northbound Interstate 880. The police chase ended in a Hayward cul-de-sac.

Two of the three suspects tried running away, while the driver was taken into custody.
Officers set up a perimeter of the area and arrested a second suspect. The third got away.

The strong-armed robbery victim’s property was recovered in the suspect vehicle and returned.
The victim did not sustain any serious injuries.
Both of the suspects arrested are 15-years-old. They were booked at Alameda County Juvenile Hall.
The Alameda County District Attorney charged both juveniles with robbery and evading a peace officer.
